The BLS or HS Instructor Renewal Course is designed to review how to use AHA Instructor teaching materials, ensure Instructors meet learning objectives, offer student coaching skills, improve your skills performance evaluation and the AHA Atlas and Training Center (TC) policies, updates and notices. The course covers core content and discipline-specific content required to teach the AHA Instructor-led, blended learning, and virtual instruction requirements. STEP 1
Meet All Prerequisites: Must have a current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Provider certification or inquire with our TC about scheduling the BLS Provider course prior to the Instructor Renewal Course. Must have a completed AHA Instructor Candidate Application on file and have a signed Instructor Agreement with the TC. Must have an AHA Instructor Essentials online Certificate of Completion for each discipline you teach. All documents must be executed prior to issuance of a new Instructor eCard.
STEP 2
Attend the classroom portion in-person: The classroom portion of the course covers instructor materials/resources, policies of both the AHA and Tri CPR, card processing, administration of a course, equipment maintenance, CPR updates, hands-on skills testing, a multiple-choice exam, and more.
STEP 3
Monitored by AHA Faculty: Prior to the instructor renewal course, coordinate with Faculty or TCC Staff to be monitored while instructing a provider class. Course monitoring can be done at one of our locations or you can be monitored at your own facility, by an in-person or virtual Training Faculty via an interactive Zoom video. Monitoring must be done within 30 days of completing of Step 2. Note: There is a separate charge for monitoring a course and the Instructor must have AHA approved equipment and curriculum.
