This Hands-on Skills Classroom Session includes review, practice, and testing.

This is the Hand-On Skills Test "ONLY" portion for those students who have completed the online AHA BLS HeartCode for Healthcare Providers course.  You must email the completion certificate to us before you attend the hands-on skills practice and test portion of the course. 

1. You will be able to access the BLS Provider Manual eBook from within the eLearning course.

2. After you complete the online course (1-3 hrs), a Completion Certificate is generated online that must be emailed to certificates@tricpr.org with the subject line: AHA BLS HeartCode Certificate. 

3. Call 1-800-517-7156 to schedule a same day (1-2 hrs) Hands-on Skills Review/Testing session at one of our locations.  

4. After successfully completing the hands-on test, you will receive your AHA BLS Provider eCard via email within 24-36 hours and your certification is good for two years.

This recertification course is for licensed or nonlicensed healthcare providers whose certification card has not expired.  The Renewal BLS course includes review, exam, practice, and hands-on skills testing on the following:

  • Adult and Pediatric CPR
  • Foreign body airway obstruction in conscious and unconscious patients
  • Two-rescuer scenarios with the use of a barrier protection (pocket mask) and a bag valve mask ventilation (BVM)
  • Use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Students will receive the BLS for Healthcare Providers course completion card good for 2 years. 

NOTE: Must provide proof of current AHA BLS certification card to attend this class. 

1.    Once the payment is made, you will receive course confirmation and instructions for the course via email. The course can be completed in 1.5 - 2 hours depending on the number of students present. 

2.     All course PPE materials and equipment are provided.  To reduce health risks students are encouraged to bring their own pen or pencil and paper for testing.  Students should wear comfortable clothes for the hands-on skills test.  

3.     Student manuals for this class are available in print/ebook format at www.shopcpr.heart.org/product-type.

4.     After students complete the course they will receive an American Heart BLS CPR card via email usually within 24-36  hours.

To become an AHA BLS Instructor you need to complete the following steps.

Prerequisites: An Instructor Candidate must have a current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Provider certification or inquire with our Training Center (TC) about taking the BLS Provider course prior to completing an Instructor Essentials Course.  Must have a completed AHA Instructor Candidate Application on file with a TC, approved for alignment with a TC, and be monitored instructing an initial course.  Upon meeting the prerequisites, candidates will be approved to conduct courses and issue certification cards.  

STEP 1

The AHA Instructor Essentials Course is presented in a blended format that includes an online self-directed course and a hands-on skills test.  Both must be successfullly completed.

The BLS Instructor Essentials Course is designed to prepare instructor candidates to teach AHA Instructor-led and blended learning BLS Provider courses. It educates instructor candidates on how to use AHA Instructor teaching materials, ensure that students meet learning objectives, offer student coaching skills, provide an objective skills performance evaluation, and follow AHA Instructor and course policies. The course covers core content and discipline-specific content required to teach AHA courses. Once you have completed the online Instructors Essential course, the certificate of completion must be email to certificates@tricpr.org.

To complete the Instructors Essential course, you will need a 2020 BLS Instructors Manual (Product #20-1103) & a BLS Provider Manual (Product #20-1102).  The manuals may be purchased at Amazon.com or https://shopcpr.heart.org/courses/bls.

STEP 2

The classroom portion of the course covers instructor materials/resources, policies of both the AHA and Tri CPR, card processing, administration of a course, equipment maintenance, CPR updates, hands-on skills testing, a multiple choice exam, and more. 

STEP 3

Includes being monitored teaching your first class. This can be done during one of our many courses or you can be evaluated at your own facility (depending on location) by an in-person or virtual Training Faculty. This monitoring must be done within 6 months after completion of part 2 (Note: There is a separate charge for monitoring an instructor’s course). Instructor must have their own equipment for the monitored course.

Monitoring for AHA InstructorCertification Renewal or Compliance

Your continued instructor alignment with an American Heart Association (AHA) Training Center  (TC) is based upon being monitored by a Faculty Trainer (FT) while conducting an AHA classroom based course. If you conduct classes virtually, you will also have to be monitored conducting an AHA course as a Virtual Instructor (Effective 9/1/2023).  The intent of the AHA monitoring policies is to ensure consistent quality in AHA courses wherever they are taught. The Training Center Coordinator (TCC) may require additional monitoring for transfer instructors, for compliance reasons, or at the recommendation of Faculty.  Monitoring may be conducted in-person or virtually. 

In addition to a successful monitoring session, all AHA Instructor requirements must be met as well as the requirements of the TC, AHA Ethics/Code of Conduct, and use of current course materials.

The monitored course must be taught according to the guidelines and core curriculum set forth in the current editions of the AHA course textbook(s) and/or Instructor Manual(s).

  1. If you are currently aligned with Tri CPR LLC TC – Go to www.tricpr.org to make payment through your Instructor Membership for a discount. If you are not aligned with Tri CPR LLC TC – Please call 1-800-517-7156 to schedule your monitored course and receive an invoice.  
  2. Provide your current Provider ecard, Instructor ecard, and Instructor Essentials Certificate for the course discipline you are being monitored. Email documents to certificates@tricpr.org with "Instructor Monitoring" in the subject line.
  3. Receive your Instructor ecard via email with 24-36 hours.

For Individuals Wanting To Become A Certified American Red Cross Instructors

This  American Red Cross will train instructor candidates to teach American Red Cross Basic Life Support courses.

Prerequisites: Students must possess a current Basic Life Support Certicication from the American Red Cross or another accepted organization: American Heart Association, National Safety Council, ASHI, ECSI, or Canadian Red Cross (please verify if you are not sure) and be at least 16 years of age on the last day of the instructor course. This is a blended learning course consisting of online content, a pre-course skill session and classroom segments. Online material must be completed prior to attending the classroom activities. You will receive the link to the pre-course work information two prior to your class.  There is minimal work required (approx 1-2 hours) before class which involves watching a very short video. 

Upon registration, it is important that you review and follow the directions in the e-mail attachment sent with your registration confirmation. 

Instructor Training Course Overview

In order to complete the course, students must arrive with prerequisites complete and be in attendance from start to finish of the training. Instructor candidates will also need to successfully demonstrate teaching techniques discussed in the class during mandatory practice-teaching sessions. There is a mandatory written test, which must be passed with a score of 80% or better. Course completion provides a certification as an Instructor good for 2 years.

The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED Blended (BL) the course is designed for anyone involved in childcare who have a duty to respond to illnesses and injuries in a child or infant in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. Including: childcare workers, teachers, camp counselors, etc.

You will learn the knowledge and skills that may help save a life. The skills learned in this course will help prepare participants to respond to illnesses and injuiries in a child or infant until emergency medical services providers arrive.  Topics include first aid basics including medical, injury, poison, and environmental emergencies, preventing illnesses and injuries and controlling bleeding & bandaging. The course offers enhanced and realistic scenarios while providing course and content flexibility.  The interactive instructor-led skills session help students better retain information.

The online portion (Part 1) of the Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED BL course  can be completed in one sitting, or break it up into several sessions depending on individual needs. Following the self-directed online portion, you will take a hands-on skills sessions in person with an AHA Instructor.

2. After you complete the online course a completion certificate is issued to you online. You then send the completion certificate to us via email. 

3. Upon our receipt of your completion certificate, you come to our office for the hands-on training part of the course.  

4. After you complete the hands-on training you will receive your American Heart Heartsaver ecard via email within 24-36 hours.

The course is $100.00. If payment is not made within 24 hours of registering your name may be removed from that course date and time.
